Laura Stepniak returns to Steel City this summer during her professional offseason in Poland’s top division, where she played with Skra Częstochowa and Stomilanki Olsztyn.
As a 16-year-old in Ladies Steel City’s inaugural '21 season, Stepniak helped give the club real standing, stepping into full semi-pro soccer and leading the team in scoring.
“It means a great deal to us that a player of Laura’s caliber recognizes the value of our culture and competitiveness, and chooses to spend part of her summer here before heading back to Europe,” said Chairman Ivaldo Basso.
“She feels a sense of stewardship in helping us grow.”
From Lane Tech to Galaxy SC to the professional game abroad, some things have stayed the same: the pregame walk, the playlist, the prayer, and her trademark purple pre-wrap with untied laces for luck.
A local hero is back!

Now in her second year on the sideline, she’s helping shape the next generation of Steel City Women.
The Plainfield native was ESCC Conference Defender of the Year at the University of Parkside and a two-time All-Stater at Joliet Catholic Academy, where she captained the program for three seasons.
Her club roots run through Galaxy SC, one of the region’s most respected pipelines.
Steel City runs in the family, too. Makenzie and her brother Tyler became the first sibling duo to represent the club, with @tkaput15 starring as a midfielder on the 2022 side.
