We are a local, volunteer-run organization. Our name captures a piece of the area’s history and our logo and style of play reflect the hard-working nature and grit of the people that built our surrounding towns. Many of our players and coaches teach and coach in the area. Our team and supporters are gender and ethnically diverse, representing the demographics of our area.

Four of our players have signed professional contracts. In '22, our U23 men won the National Soccer League's U23 championship and finished 2nd in the Illinois State Cup. In '23 our U23 men finished 2nd in the Illinois State Cup.

Engagement has grown rapidly. The Chicago Tribune wrote a feature article on our star player, our team was the cover story in Frankfort Neighbors magazine and our game results and interviews are featured on the area’s largest radio station, WJOL. Our chairman was named Soccer Person of the Year by the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches A

The Chicago Tribune wrote a feature article on our star player, our team was the cover story in Frankfort Neighbors magazine and our game results and interviews are featured on the area’s largest radio station, WJOL. Our chairman was named Soccer Person of the Year by the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association (section 14) for Steel City’s work amplifying the high school game.

Steel City is the 1st ever minor league team in the U.S. to negotiate a solidarity payment from a U.S. professional team in connection with its players signing a pro contract. Steel City paved the way for other minor league teams to secure payments and help the grassroots ecosystem.
